Elaine Susan Walko, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Walko of LaGrange, arrived November 25 1950 two days after Thanksgiving in a snowdrift near the Norman Youngeberg farmhouse. She weighs 13 pounds 8 ounces at about 13 weeks old, more than doubling her birth weight.
Washington officials treated Stalin's interview as propaganda with no immediate effect. State Department staff read the statement for sleepers or loaded phrases but found nothing to excite. Congress demanded deeds over words, while Kremlin efforts to broaden circulation added little to routine Soviet charges.
London accused Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin of using a Pravda interview to create a smokescreen for Russia’s arms buildup while denying war is inevitable. Britain cited 175 divisions, 25 000 tanks and 20 000 aircraft as evidence of Russian aggression and criticized Attlee for allegedly lying about Russia.
The Weather Bureau issued a 30 day outlook predicting above normal temperatures from mid February to mid March across all states east of the Rockies except Texas which should be slightly colder. West of the divide expect cooler than normal temperatures while the Midwest should show the greatest moderation from recent cold spell.

County leaders approve a plan to raise 10000 for civilian defense, funded by tax duplicates from Lorain Elyria Avon Lake Oberlin Wellington Amherst and Avon towns and townships. Maurice J. Condon notes 64 county radio stations could be organized for defense, stressing communications as priority. Commissioner President J Norman Thompson comments.
Dorothy Mae Stevens, once found frozen in an alley with a body temp of 64 degrees, says she feels wonderful at Michael Reese Hospital. She plans to move to a warmer place after leaving the hospital, despite bandaged arms and legs. A separate note mentions a Grotto Minstrel rehearsal by the Junior Chamber of Commerce at 114 Hirwood St. on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Chicago's price stabilizer Michael V. DiSalle announced plans to level off prices by mid summer at a point higher than present levels and to hold there as long as possible. He aims to protect the public from profiteers and says his office will fix inequities from the recent price freeze and issue tailored mark up rules for wholesale and retail food sectors.
Belgrade Yugoslavia Marshal Tito warned the Soviet Union and satellites that any attack on Yugoslavia could trigger a world war. In a speech to 2900 party members he said a localized war was the least likely outcome and urged followers to accept Western aid for defense and political reasons.
Official Elyria Red Cross campaign opens March 1 and runs through March 10 with a goal of $33,822. Directors across divisions meet with General Chairman William Holt at noon. Ronald Dunn welcomes volunteers. Next meeting set for Friday February 23 at noon at the Sederis hotel.
A truck driver identified as L. S. Mitchell, 25, of Fort Payne Alabama, was burned to death when his tractor-trailer left the road last night. The cargo shifted spilling into the cab and a gas tank exploded, trapping him inside as the truck burned.
Elmer Mileski a WWII veteran was stabbed to death in an east side Cleveland brawl. Two other men were in critical condition as police seek the assailant known as The Alabama Kid.
Elyria City Health Department organizes opposition to a state bill that would abolish all city health departments in communities under 100000 and shift duties to a general health district. The local board and many cities oppose this centralization. A council resolution to oppose the bill is set for Monday night. A Feb 27 hearing for supporters is announced with opponents to be scheduled later.
Celebrities from the sports world gather in Elyria for a March 12 Janowicz Recognition Dinner honoring Vic Janowicz. Arch Ward will speak, with other sports figures in attendance to celebrate his Heisman Trophy and multiple All-American honors.
Arch Ward, Chicago Tribune sports editor and originator of the first All-Star games in baseball and football, will speak at the Vic Janowicz Recognition Dinner on March 12. Ward helped develop the Golden Gloves, led Notre Dame publicity, and built charity support with Tribune Charities.
Authorities investigated the mysterious shooting of Jimmy Adams 13 a Philo High School band member who was struck by a bullet from a passing auto while walking on Philo Street. He was in fair condition at Bethesda Hospital with a chest wound believed to be near the lung.
The Lorain County Bar Association recommends adding a common pleas court judgeship to handle domestic relations and juvenile work, to ease current judges. A special committee will push the measure in the Ohio legislature. A separate report backs a juvenile detention home only if linked to existing institutions, not as a new facility.
Election forecaster Louis H. Bean testified that Rep. Walter Huber would have won re election last November if ballot positions had rotated equally. Bean noted Lorain county results with Ayres leading in 74 precincts, Huber in 37, and an independent top in 37, suggesting Huber could have gained at least 2,880 votes.
Frank J. Colopy, administrator of the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, said newly unemployed Ohio workers filed more than 10 000 additional claims in the week ended Feb 10. Nearly 17 000 claims were filed versus 6 612 the prior week, due chiefly to gas shortages during the extreme cold.
U S forces repelled a two mile push by Korean Reds against Chechon on the central front near Wonju. By 5 P M the attack stalled with a Red column 7 miles north of Chechon and mortar fire met by American units four miles north.
Defense Mobilizer Charles E. Wilson proposed naming a union official as a top advisor to avert a labor boycott of the Wage Stabilization program. He dropped the demand that a labor representative resign union affiliation, insisting the aide work full time for the government. Labor groups warned of disapproval of a plan run by business leaders and demanded a voice in Wilsons office after AFL Barkley clerk head George M. Harrison was named labor advisor to Eric A. Johnston.
Prague Czechoslovakia two U S jet fighters inadvertently crossed into Czech airspace Feb 7 while lost on a training mission. The United States delivered a note to the Czech government apologizing for the border crossing and stating the planes crossed the border from the U S zone of Germany.
