Texas Oil Gusher Spurs Heir Claims From Spin dletop
Beaumont Texas AP report notes 1901 Spindletop gusher sparked a flood of legal claims by heirs to the Texas oil fortune. Cousins James Clark of Cincinnati and Dan Profitt of Elsmere Ky sue in federal court over an alleged 1931 deed granting one eighth interest to James Meadors. The case echoes earlier 1982 attempts, with Dallas attorney Morris Harrell arguing it is the same as prior suits. Local county records chief R L Barnes says inquiries about Spindletop heirs flood the office, prompting mass mailings describing Pelham Humphrey grant history.
