Snow totals rise to nine inches in Lorain County

Lorain County saw up to 9 inches of snow from Friday night into Saturday with lighter totals around the lakeshore. Officials reported few crashes or spinouts, a countywide parking ban in Lorain, and a brief respite with cold temperatures by night.

Snowmageddon buries Washington in blizzard depths

The capital faced a historic blizzard as Washington D C recorded near two feet of snow with Dulles hitting 32 inches and Reagan National about 18 inches. Mary Lord described the city as an Epcot Center version while landmarks were cloaked in white and a snowman appeared at the Lincoln Memorial. President Obama addressed the Democratic National Committee winter meeting thanking participants for braving the storm.

Charity exec wins local dance-off

Oberlin Nord Foundation Executive Director John Mullaney won the Oberlin Inn fundraising dance contest for the Ohio Dance Theatre. He danced with Janet Strakely to Glee’s Proud Mary, drawing cheers from about 120 attendees and calling the victory a once in a lifetime moment.

Officials raid Vermilion business seize slot machines

Vermilion police said a search warrant at Judy's on the Lake yielded gaming machines, cash, records, chairs, and a TV after a month long probe. The Ohio Attorney General's Office and Lorain County Drug Task Force assisted. no charges were filed.

Columbia board seeks 2 in 1 levy for new school and upgrades

The Columbia school board approved a May 4 ballot measure combining a 1.9 mill bond issue to fund Copopa Elementary and middle school upgrades with a 1.25 mill permanent improvement levy. The package would raise about 6 million over 28 years and about 251,053 annually for operations, with an estimated 8.04 dollar monthly cost for a 100000 home.
