Defense secretary warns war in space could come
Defense Secretary Harold Brown told the House Armed Services Committee the United States must be ready for space war or risk being unable to respond. He cited a Soviet maneuvering satellite capable of destroying U S satellites and projected improvements by the mid 1980s. Brown discussed anti-satellite research and a potential laser-based system, noting a Carter proposal for a US Soviet ban and urging mutual restraint to protect satellites.
