Ritz era gloom and glamour at the studio

A lively slice of Hollywood chatter recalls Gregory Ratoff directing with actors, Warner Baxter as a longtime romantic lead, and a flurry of notes from Twentieth Century managers. Shirley Temple, Tyrone Power, and Tyrone Power’s election as King of the Avi—amid ribbing from guests and wardrobe details—paint a portrait of studio life and fan idol worship.

Behind the Scenes on a Hollywood Set with Ameche and Young

On the Alexander Graham Bell set director Irving Cummings leads Don Ameche and Loretta Young through a delicate emotional scene. A series of mishaps from a mic boom to a truck crash test patience, but the sixth take captures a superb, emotionally true moment that moves the crew. A sneezing visitor ends the scene with a dark, humorous note on tension.
