Ohio quake rattles region with strongest in 50 years

A 5.0 magnitude quake centered in Geauga County near Cleveland rattled Ohio and parts of the Midwest and Canada, injuring 15 with no major damage. The Perry Nuclear Power Plant was shut for precaution, lines jammed, and reporters noted windows, chandeliers, and cabinets swaying as residents described the trembling from Cleveland to Toledo and beyond.

Lorain man killed in one car crash at Route 2 611

David Peabody 29 of 707 Root Road Lorain died late Friday in a single vehicle crash at the Route 2 westbound ramp. Police say he failed to stop at a ramp stop sign, crossed Route 611, hit a guardrail flipped and rolled down a 50 foot embankment. He was alone and died at the scene. He was taken to St Joseph Hospital for confirmation.

Challenger rocket rupture cited as self-destruct trigger

Investigators study tapes and photos to see if a rupture in the shuttle solid rocket caused a flame to hit the fuel tank, possibly triggering the self-destruct package. January weather in Elyria sees mild temps but heavy snowfall

January in Elyria was warmer than average with a 28 degree monthly mean and 17.3 inches of snow, higher than the 9.7 inch average. Records show 1983 as warmest January and 1978 blizzard as heaviest snowfall, with notable cold spells in 1957 and 1978 and a 1977 record cold 128 degrees period.
