Ohio Quake Of 4.0 Noted Across Region

Earth tremors shook Ohio with reports from Elyria to Steubenville and as far as Zanesville. Kent State and John Carroll University measured magnitudes 4.0 and 3.5 respectively, with no major damage reported though one nursing home wall crack and widespread phone calls followed.

NASA reveals Challenger debris with intact wing fragments

NASA screened about 15 minutes of video showing six shuttle fragments recovered offshore near Daytona Beach including pieces from Challenger. The aluminum core was protected by heat resistant tiles, many torn but not charred, with tiles bearing identification numbers and a 20-foot fuselage section marked RESCUE.

Wellington sergeant faces stop sign charge in Russia Township

A Wellington Police sergeant, Carl E. von Czoernig, was charged by Darren Bremke of 46058 Russia Road with disobeying a stop sign. A pretrial conference is set in Oberlin Municipal Court. Bremke alleged the citation occurred after von Czoernig stopped him at the Auto License Bureau and then ignored a stop sign on Bennett Street and West Herrick Avenue as he headed back to town. Bremke filed the charge Jan. 21 and later returned to the police station to discuss.
