GOP Retains Majority as Elyria City Council Sworn In
The 1968-69 Elyria City Council closed with five members stepping down after 26 years of service. The 1970-71 council, including six Republicans and five Democrats, was sworn in by Judge Frank M. Wilcox before about 100 attendees. New leadership and committees favored freshmen, with Eugene B. Smith expected as council president and Robert K. Wilson as clerk.

Grand jury returns 17 indictments in Lorain County cases
The grand jury in Elyria returned 17 indictments including illegal narcotic procurements by Dr. Epitacio Catalan and a shooting by Arlena Bohannon. Five indictments were sealed awaiting apprehension. Defendants include Donald Holman and Jose Ramirez among others. several cases involve forgery robbery burglary and drug possession. Trial arraignments set before Judge Mikus with pre trial hearings to follow.

Dellinger to stand trial in son's starvation death
Robert Dellinger 23 of Lorain was found sane and ordered to stand trial for child neglect in the starvation death of his four year old son Lonnie. A Lima State Hospital report ordered psychiatric tests showed below normal mentality. Trial dates set for Dellinger and his wife Lela with pre trial January 12 and February 5 respectively.
