Should Parents Lavish Toys On Children
Readers excerpt from the Gesell Institute discussion by Frances L. Ilg and Louise Bates Ames questions whether lavish toy giving by parents is necessary. A concerned mother describes limiting gifts, saving for the child, and resisting peer pressure to accumulate presents while noting temper tantrums in stores and the desire to show love without excess. The piece urges reconsideration of how to express affection and stresses thoughtful, not compulsory, gift giving.
