Prowler Arrest Ends Geor gia Ave harassment spree

Lorain police last night arrested Richard King of 341 Georgia Ave for two months of terrorizing neighbors on Georgia Ave and E Street. A stakeout linked him to ice throwing at a neighbor’s home and he faced municipal charges for false reports and disorderly conduct. King admitted throwing ice and rocks and claimed to be chasing a prowler. Police notes say King, a married father of several children, sparked widespread complaints as residents reported attacks on homes.

Talks in strike deadlock again in Cleveland

UPI reports deadlocked contract talks in the strike that shut down the two major Cleveland newspapers. Negotiations between the Cleveland Newspaper Guild and both the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Press collapsed Monday, keeping the papers idle with about 700,000 in circulation affected.

Four men missing after rocket testing shaft collapse at AEDC

At AEDC in Tullahoma Tennessee a 250 foot deep rocket testing chamber collapsed during concrete pouring. Rescue workers found no sign of life and four men remained unaccounted for as the hardening concrete delayed efforts. Two men escaped by grabbing the bucket. Project manager Clyde Morris descended to search and reported no signs of survivors.

Break in robbery expected in Plymouth mail truck hijacking

Authorities loom toward solving the Plymouth mail truck hijacking, a $1.5 million theft, as a federal grand jury convenes in secret. No arrests yet but investigators say identities of the bandits are known and the loot remains unrecovered. The crime occurred Aug 14 on a lonely highway between Cape Cod and Boston.

Snow removal costs set by Elyria mayor

Mayor Charles V. Neeson told the city council the latest snow removal bill totals at least 12 200 dollars. Overtime payments reached about 9000 dollars with 8 000 dollars for rental of equipment and 1 200 dollars for 150 tons of salt. The council praised workers and officials while Safety Director Joseph C. Cowden was authorized to send letters of thanks including to Thew Shovel Co for lending a leader. Equipment damage was reported, with a grader clutch failing and a salt spreader struck, and private contractors were unavailable in the first 24 hours due to commitments to Elyria industries.

Amherst debate over Rt 254 link to Rt 58 in Lorain County

Lie detector test planned in fatal Lorain shooting

Lorain authorities set a lie detector test for the ex-girlfriend of Enyque Roos in a fatal shooting. Roos was found shot in his car on Ada Avenue amid deep snow. bond with the deceased and a prior breakup are noted.
