The Chronicle Telegram reports minimal use of red carpet runners for special events in the North Coast. Rob ert Stewart of Elyria Holiday Inn says tours are greeted with a red carpet as guests exit buses, while John Aunspaw of H and B Mat Rental notes a celebrity designed carpet used 4 to 6 times yearly and available for rent. A Oberlin College event was misread as a roll out. it was protective flooring during a furniture moved event.

Roger Maris dies at 51 after cancer battle
Houston AP Roger Maris, holder of the major league single season home run record, died Saturday at M D Anderson Hospital after a two year cancer fight. He was 51 and had lymphoma diagnosed in November 1983. His wife was by his side as the cancer, once undetected for years, ended his storied career and life.

Chairlift disaster at Keystone injures skiers in Colorado
A Keystone resort Teller Lift chairlift jolted loose on a Colorado slopes Saturday. The wheel slipped and snapped the cable, tossing about 40 feet, injuring scores of skiers aboard 370 chairs. Evacuation took hours. several are reported in critical condition.
