Snowfall Triggers Rash of Accidents Across Ohio
Frigid conditions blanketed Ohio with gusty winds and under 15 degrees wind chill as Elyria records show 21 accidents from Friday afternoon to dawn. Three people died in weather related crashes, including a two car collision near Midway Mall injuring two. Roads remained slick, Ohio Turnpike closures occurred, and plows and salt crews operated statewide. Dixie L Chonka and Bonnie Goodman were involved in the serious Elyria crash, both treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital. A separate head on collision near New London left a 22 year old teacher hospitalized in Mansfield General Hospital. Lucinda E Mares and Leon Stevens were involved in the Route 60 crash south of New London.

GANDER Newfoundland AP badly charred black boxes from the Arrow Air DC-8 crash yielded no clues to the cause. Boag leads a 40 member Canadian Safety Aviation Board team seeking data salvaged from the recorders. All 248 soldiers of the 101st Airborne and eight crew died when the jet hit trees near the runway end after refueling in Newfoundland on a Cairo to Fort Campbell mission.
