Kucinich Was Target of 1977 Assassination Plot

Cleveland authorities pursued leads after WKYC cited a federal witness alleging organized crime offered an $80,000 contract to kill former mayor Dennis Kucinich in October 1977. Police said the plot, though not executed, prompted heightened protection and an intensified investigation while Kucinich was mayoral candidate George Voinovich won the 1978 race.

Fumes blamed in Grafton deaths

An elderly Grafton couple were found dead in their 787 Main St home from carbon monoxide fumes from a faulty boiler. Stanley Ptak, 74, and Florence Ptak, 75, were discovered by an American Oxygen Co. serviceman as authorities investigated a long faulty boiler and a recently airtight basement, with Mrs. Ptak using oxygen for heart ailment. The pair had been married 16 years and attended Belden United Methodist Church. he formerly worked as a master mechanic and she ran Florence’s Beauty Shop.
