A reader notes December turned like May with a record 68 degrees near Elyria Savings and Trust on Tuesday. Forecasters expect temperatures to drop below 44 degrees as sunny skies fade, per a recent top photo from last week.

In Seoul gunfire erupted around 8 p.m. near the Hannamdong residence area housing the foreign minister and military chiefs. Witnesses reported armored cars and troops, with unconfirmed claims that Army Chief Gen Chung Seung hwa was wounded and detained. Several aides wounded, ambulances seen, traffic halted for over an hour. The Blue House lies distant from the scene.

Gold rose to 450 dollars an ounce in London marking a new high in the British market. The dollar strengthened in Japan but weakened in Europe as bullion prices climbed from 447 to 450 in London and 449 in Zurich by mid morning.
A 50 minute outage forced early mall closing as hundreds of Christmas shoppers were trapped inside. About 20 stores on the west side went dark at 830 p.m. security said the outage came from outside the mall. Ohio Edison cited a transformer failure at Murray substation west of Lake Avenue affecting Midway Mall Sommers mobile home park Dellefield Road and Hidden Valley in Amherst Township.
