Bunche’s enduring role as a global black leader
The article recalls Ralph Bunche’s rise from a Howard professor to UN under secretary and Nobel laureate, his cautious departure from diplomatic service toward teaching, and his image as a symbolic yet influential figure in civil rights. It notes encounters with Oberlin peers, debates with leaders like King, and Bunche’s nuanced stance on direct activism versus leadership.
