Ohio House approves first state income tax in history
The Ohio House voted 56 to 42 to approve the first state income tax, with 43 Democrats and 13 Republicans backing. The Senate already approved. Gov. Gilligan is expected to sign, making residents begin paying 4 to 3 percent personal tax in January plus a 4 to 8 percent corporate tax. Rescue save after first U.S. fighter down over Laos border
Maj. Robert E. Belli of Philadelphia was shot down near the North Viet Namese border while escorting bombers toward the Ho Chi Minh trail. A 4-aircraft rescue effort plucked him from rugged terrain as SAMs and antiaircraft fire rained on the search planes. Belli, injured but in good condition at Korat hospital, was aided by M Sgt. Leon Fullwood during a risky daytime pickup.
