City worker offered quitting to drop firing case
Elyria will reconsider the firing of Peter Drenner, former head of the forestry department, if he resigns and withdraws his appeal to the civil service commission. A city spokesman said charges will be withdrawn upon resignation. Drenner was fired Nov. 24 for allegedly working on his own equipment during city hours while an injury from an accident occurred. The mayor said Drenner used a city loader to lift an engine from his truck on city time. Drenner later filed a false police report and for workers’ compensation, which aroused suspicions. The attorney declined comment on whether the medical issue relates to the accident.
