WPA Workers Seek Pay For Time Of Unemployment
About 25 WPA workers from Sheffield Township gathered at WPA headquarters and the county commissioners’ office seeking relief for a day period of unemployment after project completion. Robler Jones said the group worked on the earview athiene feld project from November 16, with pay only for actual documented work. They received $316.91 on December 31, not for full half month’s pay, claiming they expected payment during idle times. Officials cited WPA rules denying pay when not assigned to work. Jones said he had written seven letters without useful responses, aside from a note from a senator. Also notes a separate fatal accident in Conneaut, Ohio, where a vehicle crashed into a truck.
