A Firelands Lions Club Charter Night in Birmingham drew 77 members and guests Wednesday at 7 30 p.m. They heard district governor Ralph Gilmore on Lionism and were entertained by the Cord Weavers of Elyria. Pins for perfect attendance were awarded to Don Wasem Archie McDowell Cliff McDowell Howard Radcliffe and James Angelo. The evening featured student performances from Avon Old Fort Elyria Vermilion and Firelands areas.

Two Elyria Council members Ti4 Knights of Columbus Urban Obringer grand knight and Steve Radocevich youth program chairman attend the statewide youth program meeting in Cleveland. The state program spans state and local levels with Newman Club activities in non Catholic colleges diocesan CYO summer camps and guiding Boy and Girl Scout troops. A scholarship program run by Anthony A. Bosch Toledo aids high school graduates entering teaching. Locally the drive funds two Elyria District Catholic High School boys to Operation Youth at Xavier University and supports CYO basketball as well as the Lithe League team and other youth projects.
