Icy blast sweeps midwest as snow piles up in Ohio towns

Snow fell lightly in northern Ohio with seven inches expected in Toledo and lake shore areas by Tuesday. An eastward Colorado low brings banded snow to the plains and Great Lakes. colder air will follow. Temperature readings were well below freezing across cities including Youngstown 13 Toledo 16 Cleveland 16 Dayton 18 Columbus 18 and Cincinnati 2. Traffic remained steady on the Ohio Turnpike though roads north of Celina and Jefferson stayed snowbound. Far West fog and a Seattle area snowstorm disrupted travel while two children died in Minnesota from a fire ruled linked to an overheated stove. Icy roads caused two traffic deaths in Iowa and a San Francisco Bay area fog disrupted ship traffic.

Boxer's First Fight Ends in Tragedy Near Akron

Eshmnon Thomas a 22 year old Elyrian and father of four died after his first boxing bout on the Goodyear card in Goodyear. The 258 pound fighter collapsed Saturday night following the bout and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted the match was his inaugural professional contest.

Four Card Players Robbed Of 1538 In Lorain

Four men meeting for a card game were robbed of about 1538 by two masked gunmen in Lorain. Ray Kuhn and Bill Virgin were tied and robbed of cash and valuables including a watch and a ring. Two other victims, Vern Sibley and Majesie, suffered losses as the robbers fled after 6:49 p.m.
