FHA to implement unified Minimum Property Standards next spring
FHA Commissioner Norman P. Mason announced a single nationwide set of Minimum Property Standards to replace 23 old editions. The new standards emphasize performance over rigid rules, aim to speed industry adoption, and will apply to one or two unit properties with separate rules for three or more units. An induction period will precede full effect, with offices nationwide briefing builders and releasing copies.

Sunken Bath Adds Luxury To Any Home
A sunken or step-down bath adds style and distinction to a home without needing a pool. It isn’t a true luxury. construction should be left to a contractor while the homeowner can design layout with architect approval.
Extra Space Additions Cut Home Costs In Advance Plans
A building materials specialist explains that adding space in advance costs roughly half as much per square foot as later changes. In a 1000 square foot home selling for 12000, the structure costs about $6 per square foot, with additional rooms possible for about half that rate. Costs vary by region but proportions stay similar. Suggestions include finishing basements, adding baths, walk-in closets, porches, or converting rooms, with attic finishing in two-story homes for greater savings.
