Wife of senator dies in Alaska jet crash

ANCHORAGE Alaska UPI Senator Ted Stevens survived a privately chartered Lear jet crash at Anchorage International Airport but his wife Ann 49 died in the accident Five others perished including pilot Richard Sykes co pilot Richard Church and lawyer Joe Rudd Stevens was hospitalized in serious but stable condition with head neck and arm injuries The jet broke into four pieces after touchdown and Motley survived with injuries while aiding rescuers The crash cause was under investigation and not immediately known

22 Miraculously Survive Rocky Mountain Crash

In a severe Colorado blizzard, a Rocky Mountain Airways Twin Otter with 22 aboard crashed near Buffalo Pass. All were alive but at least 16 injured as rescuers fought wind, 30 mph gusts and subzero chill to reach the wreckage 11 hours after last radio contact. A doctor treated victims at the scene before transport.

Toll-free dialing eyed between Lorain and Elyria

Lorain city council tentatively approves toll-free telephone service between Lorain and Elyria only if it does not raise rates. The plan aims to ease calls without adding costs for residents or businesses.

Elyria officer shoots burglar at Kaplan's Furniture

In Elyria a burglary suspect, Michael E. Morrison, 22, was shot once by Patrolman Michael Killean during a scuffle inside Kaplan's Furniture store on West Broad Street. Morrison died minutes later at Elyria Memorial Hospital. A second suspect, Brian Shriver, 20, was arrested outside. Killean is relieved of duty pending a decision by the city solicitor.
