N R considers vetting carnies after thefts near Sugar Ridge Baptist Church during October. The Haunted Forest of Lost Souls operated on Sugar Ridge Road. a third man from Cuyahoga County will be charged and a 16-year-old referred to juvenile court. An Elyria man, Lorenzo Philon, 18, was arrested near an Aldi in Carlisle Township and charged with complicity to aggravated robbery along with weapon and tools charges. A second suspect fled. a gun was found in the car. Another victim, Michael Bodiford, 35, reported theft of cash, phone and keys outside the Brass Pole club. Authorities say Bodiford’s items were recovered from Philon’s car.
Jim Estle formerly Lorain Schools treasurer has been hired by Streetsboro Schools as interim treasurer starting January, earning 350 dollars a day with a likely end in March. The move comes after Lorain facing a 2007 shortfall near 5 million and a 2008 deficit over 15 million, prompting mass layoffs and a rejected 4.9 mill levy.
Lorain school district 4.9 mill levy remains defeated after a recount of absentee provisional and poll ballots, with officials predicting completion by noon. If it fails, the district faces a $2.7 million deficit next year, while Elyria bar liquor vote remains tied 235 to 235 on Sunday sales.
Elyria city officials expect proposals soon from several firms to conduct a management study of the Fire Department. The committee will review submissions next week and aim to recommend a contractor by Jan. 5.
