Dick Powell completes a film behind the camera as director while remaining single. He takes a pay cut and jokes about preferring the directing role to acting, saying he’s getting old but would have worked for nothing.
Powell finishes shooting Split Second at RKO and chooses to direct. He explains five years of trying, bought script Beautiful But Dangerous for Joan Simmons but let RKO keep it with a directing condition. He led Stephen McNally Jan Sterling and Keith Andes, received a leather script holder, and earned another directing project. He hopes to direct June Allyson someday, though MGM won’t rush it.
