Two CIO Unions Cast For Reuther In CIO Vote

Youthful firebrand Walter P. Reuther appeared certain to win the CIO presidency as two more unions the Brewery Workers and the American Radio Association switched to his side. Supporters predicted a margin exceeding 500,000 votes over Allan F. Haywood as the 14th annual CIO convention neared its climax in Atlantic City.

VFW District Conference Set for Elyria December

Elyria Post 1079 will host the Ninth District Conference on December 7 at 347 East Bridge Street with 27 posts from northern Ohio. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary meets at the Eagles hall on Broad Street. Pearl Harbor Day ceremony at the Elyria courthouse begins 1 30 p.m. A pre-dance registration for the conference will be held before the dance at the VFW Hall.

Seven Die In Fire Near Youngstown

A family of seven perished in a one story frame house fire in Liberty Township near Youngstown. Fire officials identified Henry Todman 34 wife Catherine 32 and their children May Grace 14 Henry Jr 13 Patricia 10 Carol 8 and Jo Ann 2 along with a neighbor Andrew Smith who heard an explosion and saw flames. Fire crews believed a kerosene stove exploded and could not rescue occupants. Mary Grace Todman died outside in the snow and others died inside in doorway areas while attempting to reach the sleeping children.
