Boat Fire On Cabin Cruiser Near Fairport Harbor
In Painesville Ohio on August 31 six boys and the operator of a cabin cruiser were treated for shock after the craft burst into flames as it left Fairport Harbor. Coast Guards and the harbor tug Ohio fought the blaze and towed the disabled boat back to harbor. The boat, operated by William Cox, chauffeur for Ayer Griffin King of Waite Hill, was fueled by gasoline leaks that apparently ignited the fire. Cox refused to release the passengers’ names. Airmen noted mirages similar to those seen in deserts.
