Washington report notes Tighe E Woods, rent stabilizer, will tour the nation to gauge consumer interest in price controls. If the public shows little support, he will propose removing controls and redirecting funds. He still regards price stabilization as necessary and expects rent controls to largely stay in force after Sept. 30.
Cpl. Robert Walker son of Mr and Mrs George Walker of 547 Church Street is confined to an army hospital in Japan with poliomyelitis after serving in Korea with the 24th Division in Pusan. He is paralyzed from the waist down and expected to be flown to the United States within ten days for further treatment.
County school superintendent C A Gibbens said principals will meet at the county office Saturday at 10 a.m. The plan calls for most county schools to open Wednesday while Ridgeville will start September 15 because of delays on a new wing.
Northeastern Ohio forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with warm conditions through tonight and Friday. Low tonight around 64 with east winds about 10 mph and a slowly falling barometer. Rent control booth operates on Broad Street beside Lincoln Theatre with hours Friday 9 am to 9 pm and Saturday 9 am to 5 pm. Sign a petition to extend rent control, UAW CIO Education Council.
The East Carlisle school board reverses course and will continue transporting parochial students on public buses for at least the current school year after a lengthy meeting. The decision ends a dispute over school transportation policy.
Elyria’s long time osteopath Dr H Lynn Knapp and his wife Esther sold their East River street home and will move to San Jose California with daughter Lennce and son Dr Ben Knapp in Fresno. The board of education discussed transporting parochial students by bus and voted to rescind June 11 action returning to last year’s arrangement on a temporary basis pending a definite ruling.
The Firelands Area School District plans a $664 000 bond issue to buy land and construct a modern high school, as stated by C A Gibbons superintendent of Lorain County schools.
United Press reports Hurricane Able, a 400 mile wide storm with winds to 85 mph, moving toward Miami as Texas cools. It was 99 in Fort Worth and 98 in Dallas after 25 days above 100. A separate tropical storm brings rain to the Carolinas. A Minnesota tornado and cool air shift midwest to 50s.
UN warplanes pounded North Korea from battleline to Yalu River destroying buildings near Yonan and fuel tanks near Haeju. Fighters patrolled MIG Alley and targeted hydroelectric plants Chosen 1 and 2 with rockets and one ton bombs as heavy raids sought to cripple power supply amid thick anti-aircraft fire.
Isaac W Brokaw, 73 year old Columbia Station farmer, refused to pay a $119 balance for violating township zoning by allowing two trailer homes on his land. A jail clerical error released him Aug 18. sheriff ordered his return to jail for 34 days to complete the remaining $100 owed after the daughter had paid $48. He was convicted by a jury in Justice Windoe C Nistle's court.
Elyria officials and state turnpike engineers met to discuss problems in building the six lane Ohio turnpike through the northern section. Key issues included sewer line cuts under Gulf road and who bears pumping station costs for gravity sewer systems, with city wary of burden on taxpayers.
Safety Service Director D. W. Kothe reports the city has filed for a permit to continue current sewage operations with a September 22 deadline. A new state law on dumping untreated waste affects parts of Elvira’s sewer system, especially low drainage areas discharging into the river. Pumping stations would be needed to link these zones to the treatment plant. Lorain already received a temporary permit.

Lorain County will receive 230 319 as its share of a 9 000 000 division of sales tax funds for the first six months of 1953, according to an allocation by the State Board of Tax Appeals. The sales tax is distributed by the Lorain County Budget Commission to county subdivisions.
Trustees moved to fast track construction of a new five room McGee family home on Middle Ridge Road after the Baumhardt Road fire killed five McGee relatives. Funds poured in countywide and unions offered labor though volunteers were slow to appear. The new house will replace the pre fire home and support the widowed father and his three motherless sons.
Pvt Dale P Yost of R D 1 Elyria is among 153 enlisted men of the 37th Division slated for overseas duty as individual replacements. The stay announced from Camp Polk La lists him in a partial roster with more names to be released later this week.
Mrs James V Fitzgerald of 218 Boston Avenue has been admitted to City Hospital in Cleveland with polio. Her husband said she was taken there on Wednesday and is very ill.
The Kremlin named Valerian Zorin to replace Jacob A Malik as Russia’s United Nations chief delegate next month. Malik, famed for his vetoes in the Security Council, returns to Moscow amid a broad Kremlin reshuffle of diplomats. Zorin will be the third Soviet deputy foreign minister to represent Russia at the UN. Malik’s health and recent canceled travel plans are noted in the dispatch.
Army Secretary Frank Pace Jr says troop rotation from Korea and 1953 discharges will strain the force while maintaining combat readiness. He notes progress since the Korean outbreak, with manpower rising to 1,550,000 and training quality, leadership, and supply improving as the Legion hears Navy and Air Force chiefs and votes on a national commander candidate.
Mrs. Leonard Tufford in charge of the Red Cross Blood Program for the Elyria Chapter appeals for more volunteer donors to complete scheduling for the next Bloodmobile visit. The unit will be at the American Legion Home in late October with date not yet set. Call the Red Cross office 2895 to register.
Ernest Lemon age 25 of Route 82 RD 1 Grafton was admitted to Elyria Memorial Hospital after a motorcycle fall on Route 1aT about 100 feet south of Route 82. Deputies reported he was thrown when braking to avoid an unidentified object in the road.
