Elyria Man Jailed in Blind Piano Tuner Murder

An 18 year old Elyria man, Clarence Sauer of 15 Chestnut Street, was arrested on a charge of murder in the death of 23 year old blind piano tuner Larry Reagan. Reagan’s body was found Sunday evening beneath an abandoned railway waiting area at East Avenue and Depot Street, near concrete stairs and a white cane spotted by two passersby. Coroner Dr. William Kishman ruled blunt head trauma from concrete caused Reagan’s death, with police attributing the fatal blow to the head. Sauer was nabbed by Elyria detectives around 4 am and was to be arraigned in Elyria Municipal Court. Reagan, a Pioneer School graduate, lived alone and worked part time as a piano tuner at the Perkins School of Piano Tuning and Technology.

Lorain USX workers to get unemployment benefits

About 1,700 workers at USX Lorain Works are eligible for unemployment benefits after a three week layoff. The Ohio Bureau ruled the Aug 1 stoppage a lockout, with workers on the job earlier gaining eligibility and weekly pay up to 147 to 233 dollars, plus 26 weeks of benefits during appeals.

Judge Dismisses Murder Charges in Parsons McDowell Case

Elyria Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge Adrian Bedeski granted a defense motion for acquittal at noon today in the murder trial of Joseph Parsons and Kevin McDowell. The ruling found insufficient evidence to send the case to the jury for deliberations.

Strike averted at Lorain County Children Services in Elyria

Lorain County Children Services and the employees association reached a tentative contract Saturday, averting a strike by about 80 of 100 staff. Negotiators said final approval is expected within 10 to 14 days with no details until ratification.
