The submarine Nautilus returned to New York Harbor with Rear Adm. Rickover aboard, greeted by Cmdr. William Anderson after a record crossing from England. Anderson had set a speed mark of six days 1 hours 55 minutes, beating the Skate by 17 hours. Also in Washington, the Supreme Court agreed to a special session to decide if Central High School in Little Rock may open to Negro students for the upcoming term.
The Nautilus under nuclear power moved into Brooklyn Navy Yard amid a gala welcome with 103 enlisted men and 13 officers aboard. Admiral Rickover led the ceremony as 60 wives joined their husbands for the first reunion since April. Rain and TV cameras watched as fireboats lit the sky and ferries paused.

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla UPI The Army sifted coded data to determine why its Jupiter C rocket failed to place Explorer V into orbit. Scientists noted the fault likely in an upper stage while Explorer V carried instruments to study the radiation belt. Signals ceased after a few minutes, ending hopes of a successful orbit.
President and Mrs. Eisenhower tentatively plan a Newport RI vacation arriving Thursday or Friday depending on domestic and international developments. They will stay in quarters one at Port Adams across Newport Harbor from the naval base on Coasters Harbor Island, near the golf course. Last fall they vacationed at the same site.
EASTBOURNE England upi six people were killed and 31 injured when an express train collided with a crowded electric commuter train. Police feared more bodies in wreckage as some hospitalized in serious condition. In Ohio Gov. C O Neill planned campaign appearances with Michael V DiSalle while Stephen M Young blasted the Eisenhower administration over Russia policy in Dayton and Youngstown areas.
