Pope Pius XIII urged a world peace in its grave hour in Castell Gandolfo. In Washington Roosevelt appealed to King Victor Emmanuel to help dissuade Europe from war and to formulate pacific proposals. Columbus August 24 Frank D Henderson a former army officer and brigadier general in the Ohio National Guard was named warden of the 107 year old Ohio Penitentiary succeeding James C Woodard. The 57 year old Democrat will earn 3900 a year plus maintenance and take control immediately.

Adam Abfall of Avon and Mary Younglas of Grafton were selected as health contest winners among Lorain County 4-H members. Abfall, 19, Avon Boys 4-H Club. Miss Younglas, 16, Penfield Nutrition Club. They defeated about 60 peers and will represent Lorain County at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus from August 26 to September 1.

Wellington Fair Closes Tonight After Three Busy Days

Wellington Ohio wraps its 84th Independent Fair with boxing matches the milking contest and a horse show on tonight's program. County Board Rejects Meal Expense Claims for Road Engineers

County commissioners again refuse meal expenses for county engineering staff when away from headquarters. A $217 bill was presented for approval, but the board indicated they would not approve it. Girl Struck by Bicycle Injures Local Resident

Agnes Sarnovsky aged 19 of 120 Taft street was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for a head contusion and bruises after being knocked down on Furnace street Hillsdale court by a bicycle ridden by Allen Beech of 601 Woodland. She was with friends Helen Sekerek and Margaret Guilmette when the accident occurred. Beech was asked to report to Police Chief Stankard today.
