Commissioners approve 1500 for lobbyist to secure bridge funds
Lorain County board voted two to one to hire G Arthur Brown as assistant to the clerk for three months at 500 a month to back a push by Harlan Curtis to obtain about 4 million in federal funds for a new bridge on Route six. Critics say the move bypasses Columbus and Washington channels and question the need for a paid lobbyist.

Voice Of The People August 24 1986 Letter
Dear Editor Mr William Hard in one of his regent broad Ss put his finger on the fundamental weakness of the New Deal. The New Deal obstructs business and thus delays and reduces employment. The present adaptation has passed a number of laws that have hindered recovery and delayed the revival of private industry. Economists generally concede that business began to improve worldwide in 1982 while Hoover was in office. This improvement continued in Europe and would have reached this country had it not been for the New Deal. The New Deal through opposition in industry arrested normal recovery. these effects were greater yet and finally halted the recovery until today business has revived in spite of it.

Roosevelt Promises and Contradictions Spark Election Unease

The piece argues this hypocrisy undermines confidence in Washington, favors Landon as a steady alternative, and laments years of inflationary policies and questionable laws. It urges voters to seek leadership rooted in integrity and practical principles.

Expensive Pension Bungle in Railroad Claims
The Railroad Retirement Board began pension payments to railroad employees despite a District of Columbia Supreme Court ruling that the 1934 pension act and the accompanying tax were unconstitutional. Congress later split the measures, but DC Court enjoined tax steps, while the pension payments continued, using $46.685 million appropriated for pensions. Taxpayers will bear the cost of the misstep.
