Humidity peaks at 78 percent around 2 pm Thursday, falling to 58 percent by 8 pm. Winds from the southeast to south at 8 to 15 mph, shifting to 15 to 20 mph later. Overall, temperatures will run 3 to 5 degrees above normal, with rain under an inch possible in scattered showers Sunday or Monday.

Oberlin Boy Wins Steer Show at Lorain County Fair

Patterson Wins By Sixth Round KO In Title Defense

World heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson defeated amateur challenger Pete Rademacher in Seattle, stopping him at 2:57 of the sixth round after a dramatic rally following a second round knockdown. Patterson weighed 187 to Rademacher’s 202, and referee Loughran had scored the fifth for Patterson after a four-punch flurry.

Lorain County Junior Fair crowns royalty and award scholarships

Marior Johnson and Dale Zeigler were crowned queen and king of the Junior Fair. Zeigler and three others won $250 college scholarships from the Lorain County Agricultural Society. Carol Schriver, named Lorain County’s queen of the furrow, also holds a royal title. Other scholarship recipients include Evelyn Butler and William Dolan. The event followed a parade drawing about 17,000 attendees with 600 in the grandstand audience.

GM Chief Attacks UAW Price Cut Proposal

An Air Force test pilot Major Peter Vanmatre of Fort Walton Beach Florida died when his F104 Starfighter crashed in a wooded area near Egtn Air Force Base. Vanmatre, a Nashville Tennessee native, was killed Thursday in the crash.
