Washington reports the cost of living reached an all time July peak with a half percent rise marking the ninth straight monthly increase. Food prices climbed sharply contributing to the aggregate rise while other goods and services also advanced. Wage gains of about three cents per hour are likely for roughly 1.3 million workers across industries including automobile, farm equipment, electrical appliances, and metal work.
Syria denounced Western powers for potential interference warning it could spark a third world war. Information Minister Akil dismissed claims of Communist influence and accused imperialists of violating international law and UN Charter by debating Syria’s fate.

Orlo W. Marsh 61 of 1030 Gulf Rd. died suddenly at Mt. Carmel Hospital Columbus after a heart attack at breakfast. He was vice president of General Industries Co. and a longtime Elyria resident born July 13, 1896. Survived by wife Margaret and son Robert. Burial at Friends Township Cemetery, Curtis Funeral Home. Services Saturday at 2 p.m. from First Congregational Church.
New York City Health Department warned that children may have severe reactions to the Asiatic flu vaccine though the vaccine itself is not at fault. A spokesman cited two Brooklyn children who ran high fevers and were hospitalized after inoculations from a private physician.
Common Pleas Court ruled the proposed city water and sewage sales amendment could not go to voters this November. Secretary of State Ted Brown said the decision would be appealed. Cities led by Columbus Akron Dayton and Cleveland argued the proposal would curb local authority and restrict sales outside city limits. The court found the Legislature failed to align House and Senate versions, blocking ballot submission.
Senate investigators report that Joe Louis was paid 2500 to sit in Hoffa trial courtroom for two hours. Hoffa testified he knew nothing of such payment and denied involvement. The hearing covered charges of conspiracy with Dio and racketeering tied to the Teamsters in New York. Recordings of Hoffa and Dio conversations were expected to be aired.
Eileen Fahey, a three year old from Providence, was found alive after 20 hours wedged in a narrow space between a garage and a frame building. Firemen and wrecking crew hacked through a foot thick wall. Gerald Deroches spotted her arm from a window. The child, daughter of a New Haven Railroad brakeman, wandered from home shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Washington reports indicate that if Russia rejects a two year halt on nuclear testing, Western disarmament talks among Allies may stall. Officials see a two stage ban as a possible first step, with signing expected by September 1956 if Moscow agrees. Zorin criticizes conditions but agrees to study the plan.
At a Moscow conference on life origin an Indian scientist Sayji Bhai Patel claimed to have created life in a laboratory. A cable from Junagadh India read life under laboratory conditions erased stop initial success further experiments on hand.
