Wreck of 17 Freight Cars Clears After Derailment at Spencer
A derailed freight train near Spencer in Medina County destroyed 17 cars and sparked a fiery explosion of three chemical tank cars. Fire departments from Wellington and Spencer battled the blaze, with no injuries reported. Chemists from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Barberton aided the assessment, saying released gases dissipated quickly. Damaged cars included acrylonitrile and carbon disulfide, used at the Akron Goodyear Plant. total damage estimated at 95000 dollars. Authorities credited rapid crew response and wide cooperation for the lack of casualties.

Findley Park camping ruled out for winter
Findley State Park camping facilities will close Sept. 7 under Gov. Gilligan’s austerity plan. Of Ohio’s 57 state parks, 46 will close except lodges cabins and golf facilities that generate income. Beach areas and programs will end with a 90 percent cutback. over 12,000 state workers affected.
