Clearview Clipper Football Faces Lineup Challenge in 1979

Chronicle Telegram notes coach Tom Hoch believes Clearview’s 1979 hopes hinge on rebuilding the line. Only two of 11 returning lettermen are linemen, with seniors Mark Smarsh and Mike Shields leading. The team boasts talent at wide receiver and quarterback but must develop an inexperienced line and fundamentals to fit Hoch’s system.

Prep grid preview hints at Clearview season roster

Hoch expresses optimism for Clearview as he lists returning lettermen and two way players. He emphasizes Pro I offense and 4-4 defense with several seniors and juniors anchoring both sides as the team prepares for Elyria Catholic and a Class A playoff push.

Keystone Wildcats seek to rebuild under new coach Sislowski

Keystone, 5-5 last season, replaces veterans with a lean slate led by Ron Sislowski. He emphasizes a simple run first offense out of a T formation with 14 plays, seven or eight limited players, and a shift from “rebuilding” to improving daily. Key contenders include Scott Canfield and Scott Yukanovich at quarterback. Todd White anchors the line with Rich Powell and John Offenburgh at tackle. Avon, in contrast, stresses experience under Terry Smith with a deep roster and multiple quarterbacks, planning an I formation and ongoing intrasquad competition to secure spots for a 50-man pool.
