A Lorain resident, born in Norfolk, Virginia, died after wandering into what she mistook for trees in a park area with two boys. Rescue crews found her body at about 11:52 p.m. and she was pronounced dead at Lorain Community Hospital.
Two break-in attempts on the south side of Elyria foiled by residents mirror eight earlier daytime home entries. Police seek a bold burglar targeting occupied houses. no direct link yet between the two incidents though both intruders entered through ground floor windows.
Jane's Fighting Ships foreword warns Soviet naval expansion surpasses defense needs and endangers Western oil and supply routes around the Cape of Good Hope. It notes U S Navy drop from 976 to about 535 ships and predicts possible fall below 400 by century's end.
Statisticians from Northern Illinois University examined Miss America through 1959 to 1978 data in a 17 page ASA report. They note that expected measurements and talents shape the crown but warned a predictive model for the next winner is still under development.
A list of twenty eight Elyria buildings and landmarks is forwarded for National Register of Historic Places. Notable entries include the Patrick Carlin House John Lersch House Old New York Central Railroad Passenger Station Elyria High School Washington Building and several churches blocks and the Water Works Tower. The notice appears on page B-2.
