Pete's Dragon remake breathes soulful life into a classic
The 2016 remake by David Lowery reimagines the 1977 tale with a silent dragon Elliot and a lone boy Pete, set in a Pacific Northwest forest. Robert Redford narrates dragon lore as Bryce Dallas Howard and Oakes Fegley anchor a quiet, emotionally open film about friendship, discovery, and confronting a rigid town.

Pete's Dragon gets tender but uneven modern rendering
A recent preview notes a quiet engaged crowd for Pete's Dragon with a transporting first half and a more conventional second. The film mingles emotional highs with a critique of its gentler moments, drawing on influences from Bambi to ET while preserving period touches like old records and landline phones.
