FiveYearOld Victim in Lorain Shooting

Lorain police detained Anderson Harkless after a shooting at the Moore home on Reid Avenue. Charlene Moore, five, was wounded in the abdomen and in critical condition at St Joseph’s Hospital. Harkless and West Moore gave diverging accounts of the melee and the gunfire that followed.

McClellan Elected Ohio Legion Commander in Columbus

Elyria public schools administrator McClellan was elected state commander of the Ohio American Legion at the Columbus convention, succeeding Clarence W. Whitemyer. New officers include Kingdom, Wagenseller, Morgan, Connelly, Williams, and Dusseau. The Legion Auxiliary chose Mrs. Charles McNeil as president.

Three Men Injured As Car Rolls Over Three Times

Three Lorain County men escaped serious injuries when their car on Route 58 near Huntington rolled over three times and stopped on the berm. Glen Grell twenty two of Lorain endured forehead abrasions, Frank Strimack twenty five of Lorain suffered left arm lacerations, and Lyle Strusa of Elyria had multiple abrasions and lip injuries with several teeth lost. All were taken to Oberlin Hospital. the car was demolished.

X North Named Campaign Chairman for Lorain GOP

Harold Covault announces X North will direct the Lorain County Republican campaign. The plan kicks off August 15 with Republican Day at the Lorain County Fair on August 21. October Draft To Call 47 000 Men For Army

The Defense Department directed Selective Service to draft 47 000 men in October for the Army. Navy Marine Corps and Air Force will not draft in October. The increase of 17 000 over September aims to replace late 1950 draftees eligible for release and maintain approved strength after reinlistments and new enlistments.

United Nations gains another week recess in stalled Korea talks

In Panmunjom the United Nations secured a one week recess as talks remained deadlocked over prisoner repatriation. Communists led by Nam Il warned of defeat if heavy UN attacks continue while the Allies prepared for more air raids on civilian targets and discussed the 116000 prisoners versus 83000 return plans. The UN also noted the release of 27000 civilian internees recently.

Collision Sends Four Persons To Hospital

Four people were hospitalized after a two car crash on Highway 6 in Vermilion at 10 39 Saturday night. Frederick Hart of Cleveland drove one car. Yola Phillips of Lorain drove the other. Hart sideswiped Phillips vehicle and spun into a telephone pole. Passengers John Henderson Eunice Teel and Marie Cheatham suffered facial lacerations shock. Hart had leg lacerations.

Four Seized In Phoney Money Deal

Washington reports the Secret Service staged a sting to trap Cleveland gangsters Frank Mazzo and Frank Oddo in a $100000 counterfeit scheme with their girlfriends Alice Mae MacDowell and Ellen Maxwell. The four were arrested in New York after delivering counterfeit money and the women later jailed for circulating fakes. the case continues as agents hunt for the printer and plates, believed hidden in Ohio.

Regatta Opens at Put-In-Bay Amid Large Yacht Fleet

The 59th Inter-Lake Yachting Association regatta begins at Put-In-Bay with one of the largest fleets. racing starts today with six courses around Put-In-Bay and Middle Bass Island. Strong winds and a thunderstorm affected weekend arrivals, but no collisions or major damage reported. Coast Guard presence and club officials from Vermilion, Lorain, and Sandusky oversee operations as races run daily at 8:15 a.m. Elyria time, with trophy awards Wednesday at the Put-In-Bay Yacht Club House.

Four persons injured in a two car collision on Route 18 east of Wellington about 3 15 p m Saturday. Martin in passing a truck crossed the yellow line and hit a car driven by Joseph Crab 47 Akron. Water Show Tonight at Cascade Park

Saucers sighting reported near Dayton by Covington woman

Mrs Russell Etters of Covington Ohio said she and local fishermen saw flying saucers northwest of Dayton last night described as brilliant lights. Dayton skywatchers reported only the moon shining in the sky.

Grafton Woman Is Poliomyelitis Victim

Mrs. Lee Carpenter 24 mother of four from Chamberlain Road Graf ton R D 2 is fighting for her life at Akron Children's Hospital. She was taken there Thursday evening with poliomyelitis and is in an oxygen tent. This case is the third reported in Lorain County. Three more Medina County cases were admitted to Akron Hospital Saturday bringing the 1952 total there to 65.

UN raids ignite large fires as Korea air war widens

In Korea UN fighter bombers hit Namsok on the East Coast with heavy air strikes using five wings supported by Marine planes. US Sabrejets tangled with MIG-15s near the Yalu as air battles raged at 35 000 feet. British Sea Furies and Japanese B 29s also joined the clash as Marines report gains and a hill near the western front changes hands again.

Woman Hurt In Wellington Car Crash At Route 58 Intersection

In Wellington Saturday evening two crashes were reported near Route 58 Beardsley road and on Route 19 three miles west. Mrs Mae Dramm 63 suffered shock and a bruised arm after a car rollover driven by her husband Carl C Dramm. no injuries were reported in a pickup sliding into a ditch. Charles Moore of Akron lost control on Route 19, struck a guard rail and rolled into a ravine. Moore uninjured.

Two Men Hurt When Car Leaves Highway East of Wellington

Two men, Robert McDonald and Dan Humble of Chippewa Lake, were taken to Lodi Hospital around 10:30 Sunday after their car left the highway three miles east of Wellington, struck a culvert, and suffered non serious injuries. The vehicle was badly damaged.

British Empire Boxing Champion Dave Sands Dies in Crash

Australian boxing star Dave Sands, holder of the Empire middleweight and multiple Australian titles, died after a truck he was driving overturned near Sidney. He had held the Australia middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight belts.
