Hurricane Allen aims tornadoes and floods in north Texas
Weather forecasters warned Hurricane Allen would bring more tornadoes and heavy rains as it tracks inland into Texas. NWS radar had already detected tornadoes aloft and flooding 2 feet deep in the Rio Grande Valley. Forecasters cautioned that the trough could pull violent storms into north Texas with 10 to 15 inches of rain along the storm track through Sunday. President Carter dispatched FEMA head to Texas to monitor the disaster response as the Democratic convention approached.
