Gentleman’s Agreement Delays Senate Tariff Session
Washington Aug 9 a gentleman's agreement between Republicans and Democrats delays the opening of the Senate tariff session from August 19 to September 3. The plan allows Republicans to finish rates by Aug 19 and Democrats to study the new duties, while Republicans tackle administrative features for a full debate on return. The accord, needed due to House rejection of early recesses, keeps the Senate meeting every third day and adjourns until Sept 3. Final action on the tariff bill likely after the December regular session.
