Former deputies sue for overtime
Three former Lorain County Sheriffs Department deputies, Larry Phillips, Richard Dungan, and Duane Seiser, plan to file a Common Pleas Court suit against Sheriff James A. Mertz seeking overtime pay at three and a half times their hourly rate. The action argues state law requires overtime compensation, while the department currently does not pay it, though a 2 mill levy proposal includes such benefits. The deputies are now working as private security guards.
