Tragedy at Georgetown Manor Fire Claims Farrand Life

A deadly blaze at Georgetown Manor on Rosewood Drive in Elyria killed 44 year old Wesley Farrand, a mail clerk at the main post office. Neighbors and rescuers faced intense heat and smoke as they tried to reach him. his 5 year old son Garci escaped. Fire damage estimated at 65 thousand dollars. one firefighter sprained an ankle. Farrand’s wife Carol and two other children were outside as the fire broke out. The complex, owned by Comet Management, comprises 128 units with 1,560 apartments in total.

Papp Convicted in Ex Wife and Prosecutor Conspiracy

Timothy Papp, already serving life for the 1973 rape and murder of Roxie Ann Keathley, was found guilty of conspiring to murder his ex wife Antoinette Burwell and Franklin County Prosecutor Joseph R. Grunda. He received 4 to 25 years, to run concurrently with existing sentences, after changing pleas to no contest on the conspiracy charges.

AFL-CIO pushes job program and wage controls

The AFL-CIO Executive Council urged the administration to launch job creating programs to offset a recession and renewed its call for mandatory wage price controls. Feighan Drops Out Of Cleveland Mayoral Race Illness

Cuyahoga County Commissioner Edward Feighan has withdrawn from the Cleveland mayoral race after being diagnosed with viral hepatitis. Feighan, 32, was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain and advised to limit work to light duties for weeks followed by a gradual return. His exit weakens the Democratic chance to defeat Republican candidate George V. Voinovich as James Nolan also leaves the race supporting Voinovich. Other major contenders include State Sen. Charles Butts and Councilman Basil Russo.
