Apollo 15 Satellite Probes Moon's Magnetic Tail Orbit

Space center reports Apollo 15, in lunar orbit, performed flawlessly sampling solar charged particles around Earth and deep in its magnetic tail. Alfred Worden ejected the 78.5 pound orbiter after astronauts Scott and Irwin left moon orbit for Earth. It marks a first close lunar orbit instrument, measuring gases magnetism and gravity.

Core sample problem hinders Apollo 15 return

SPACE CENTER Houston (UPI) The 8 foot drill core from Apollo 15 caused trouble as the crew sped home. Capsule communicator Parker questioned Scott on the length of the longest section and its storage. Scott confirmed a four foot section was still in three pieces and barely fit into a sleep restraint bag.

Apollo 15 Moon Explorers Return With Treasure Rock

Apollo 15 astronauts Scott Irwin and Worden return from a 12 day lunar mission aboard Endeavour. They bring a rock collection possibly from the original lunar crust and nearly two miles of surface film. Splashdown planned 4:46 p.m. EDT northeast of Hawaii as mission control reports flawless operations and high hopes for insights into solar system origins.

Elderly Oberlin man found alive after missing in park

George J. Yasher, 74, of Hastings Road Oberlin, was found alive in a rugged field near high tension power lines south of Route 20 after a large search by 15 park rangers and 25 sheriff deputies. He had walked away from home about 7:30 last night and was located by a ranger team near the Black River with a noisy signal from power line poles. He was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital for examination.

Five charged in Lorain drug raids cut heroin traffic

Lorain police conducted four coordinated raids resulting in 11 arrests, with five charged and held on bonds totaling 86 000. Officials said 90 to 95 percent of county heroin traffic was knocked out, while 121 heroin packets and other drugs were seized during the operation.

Bomb threat hoax probed in Westfield Center

The Medina County Sheriff's office investigated a telephoned bomb threat yesterday to the Ohio Farmers Insurance Group office building in Westfield Center. Deputies evacuated the three story headquarters around 1 p.m. and conducted a thorough search but found no explosive device.
