Convicts Build Modern Prison In N. Carolina
RALGHIGH N C Aug 6. Radio in every cell and a modified form of air conditioning will be features of North Carolina's remodeled 76 year old state prison. New electrical hookups give each prisoner a set of headphones connected to a central radio receiver so programs can be heard without disturbing others. Each inmate will have an individual electric light and all cells will have ventilation by forced draft fans. The test heating equipment and automatic temperature control will assure comfort. Remodeled at a cost of 500000 dollars, the prison aims to be one of the Souths most modern institutions, according to Oscar Pitts acting director of the penal division.
