Lorain steel to reopen next Tuesday recalling workers

U S Steel Lorain Cuyahoga Works plans to restart two blast furnaces and open the basic oxygen shop and rolling mills next Tuesday. About 7,000 laid off since Saturday may return gradually as orders increase. some workers may be recalled over two weeks. A plant spokesman warned full production requires rising demand and customer inventories have delayed full activity.

Lad posts alert foils burglary at post office

A 15-year-old boy alerted police to a nighttime burglary attempt at the North Ridgeville U S Post Office. Four suspects fled through a field toward Ridge Plaza Drive after the crew tried to crack the safe and load it into a waiting pickup truck abandoned at the rear loading dock.

N W strike ends as trains resume in Lorain County

Perishables Move After 10 Railroad Strike Ends

Rail officials moved rapidly to resume service after the strike against 10 railroads ended. Perishables were prioritized with refrigerator cars spotted nationwide as United Transportation Union workers ended picket lines.
