Apollo 15 Moonwalk Ends With Return To Falcon

Moon explorers Scott Irwin Worden completed a lunar day returning to the mothership Falcon in orbit after sampling hades rille canyon walls near Littrow and Hadley, with eight foot core drills stowed. Worden mapped the surface from orbit as lava beds and volcanic cones were confirmed on the moon, extending the active period of volcanism.

Rail strike ends as UTU reaches settlement with 10 carriers

United Transportation Union and 10 rail carriers reach a settlement on a basic contract and a back to work agreement. Officials promise to announce details at a news conference and trains to resume with crews returning at 12 01 p.m. The weeklong bargaining included UTU President Charles Luna and railroad chiefs, ending a strike that threatened regional economic disruption. A related deal with the Steel Workers prevented a steel industry strike, with a three year contract and a 30 percent pay rise.

Steel halt lingers as Lorain plant waits for orders

U S Steel says Lorain Cuyahoga Works will not resume full operations until order backlogs justify it. About 7,000 workers remain locked out despite a union contract approval last night. New raises include 50 cents immediate, 12.5 cents later, plus a cost of living formula, enhanced health insurance and pensions. Union officials plan talks with the company to review the delay in production.

Wellington boy, 10, killed by train at crossing

A 10-year-old Wellington boy, Daniel Corley, was struck and killed by a Penn Central freight train at the North Main Street crossing while riding a borrowed bicycle. Four cars stopped. witnesses say he rode into the path as signals flashed. He died later at Wellington Community Hospital. an obituary note appears on page 12.

U.S. backs China admission to UN while defending Nationalist seat

Secretary of State William P. Rogers said the United States will vote for the admission of Communist China to the United Nations but will oppose any move to eject Nationalist China from the world body.

Star athlete dies after fatal crash in Sheffield Lake

Lorain star athlete Robert J. Ilcisko, 19, of 509 Treadway Blvd., died at St. Joseph Hospital from injuries from a July 17 one car crash on East River Road. He starred in Brookside High School track and cross country, played basketball, and captained Lorain County Community College cross country, setting four mile and other track records before his death.
