The Chronicle-Telegram marks Elyria incorporation anniversary with a six-section edition. Sections three and four feature 52 pages of historical photos and stories about Elyria’s birth, plus congratulatory messages from local businesses and individuals.
Three members of a Detroit family died instantly and a fourth died at 8 30 am after a car truck collision at the Rt 224 250 intersection three miles southwest of New London. A 15 year old survivor remained in critical condition at Ashland Samaritan Hospital. The truck driver Raymond J Brenneman 27 was charged with making an improper left turn and traffic manslaughter.
General Motors Frigidaire Division plans an immediate recall of about 400 production workers. Division General Manager Herman F. Lehman said the move brings total employment at division plants in Dayton to 14,000.
Historical text outlines Ohio General Assembly act creating Elyria as Elyma in Lorain County. It fixes election timing for April first Wednesday with 10 to 11 am openings, elects mayor recorder and five trustees, and imposes two days annual labor on able bodied residents. Fines for noncompliance and low prices for meals and whiskey noted.

Dag Hammarskjold advanced plans for a summit council meeting around Aug 12 in Geneva to tackle the Middle East crisis. He held talks with representatives of the five permanent members and was to confer with six nonpermanent members, amid debate over agenda and participants. Khrushchev floated India and others as invitees. Huang Shao-Kua warned against widening attendance.
In New York a UPI report notes more than 190 000 Jehovah's Witnesses approved a resolution condemning organized Christianity. The document attacks Christian clergy as reprehensible, rejects worldly philosophy and science, and rebukes Protestant and Catholic leaders for backing the League of Nations and United Nations. The New York Legion counters, calling the group unpatriotic for not saluting the Flag or serving.
The Chronicle Telegram reports all Anniversary Edition copies sold with none left today. The unusually large press run exhausted by readers sending copies in special wrappers to friends nationwide. Circulation Manager Cartifieke notes a few extra copies may appear late next week.
Dorothy Gilles, 19, won the Elyria 125th anniversary queen contest by selling 324 tickets for the Black River Saga pageant, collecting about 4240 in prize money. Janet Kostyo, 197 tickets, earned the duchess title and a 150 savings bond. The total queen contest sales reached around 18000 with 14 princesses sharing merchandise gifts.
Ronald Rushe, 11, of Canton, died Friday night at University Hospital after a leadney transplant performed as a life saving measure. He received the organ from a woman who had died of a heart attack.
