College censured for faculty firings at Lorain County College

Lorain County Community College faced censure by a national academic freedom and tenure group for failing to uphold tenure and academic freedom after moving to retire two professors last May. The action marks the first time a public community college has been censured, with about 600 delegates voting unanimously at the association's Washington DC meeting. The body also censured eight other four year or private institutions and warned about accreditation implications tied to faculty tenure policies. The college plans an academic policy statement for board review in May to seek removal of the censure.
