Elyria Knights of Columbus announce a full week of events for their Golden Jubilee from May 3 to May 10. Arch bishop Hoban will celebrate a pontifical mass at St Marys Church Sunday morning, with Rev Edward Seward delivering the sermon.
Three Elyria area girls were treated at St. Joseph's Hospital Lorain after a collision on the Lake involving a car driven by 17 year old Lawrence Walczak of Elyria and a Vermilion driver William B. Coley 31. The crash occurred when Coley made an improper turn into Crystal Beach. The injured were Mrs Geraldine Henderson 18 Bernice Sherrill 19 Rita Arnett 17, all treated for minor cuts and bruises with Henderson sustaining a wrist injury.

Ford Becker a deputy for the State Board of Tax Appeals will attend a Lorain county tax revision meeting with disgruntled Broadway property owners. County Treasurer Walter J. Wright said Becker will advise on their legal rights during the revaluation dispute overseen by County Auditor Frank Ayres and Commissioner President Oscar G. Dunn. no complaints filed yet.
Michael Kara of 275 Griswold Road received an engraved gold watch at a Lorain National Tube plant luncheon marking 50 years of service. Born in Hungary in 1884, he arrived in New York in 1902 and moved to Lorain, working in multiple mill roles before becoming shop crane operator for Seamless Electric Maintenance since 1947. He is joined by his family including sons Albert and Robert and daughters Blanche and Elenore.
Vera Wolesey, 20, of Detroit is in fair condition at Amherst Hospital after a Sunday morning crash on Quarry Road near Route 113. South Amherst Police Chief Thomas Sneizek is investigating. the car traveled on the left side, struck railroad tracks, rolled over, and stopped upright.
The Ohio House Conservative committee nears a compromise over a bill to close Sandusky Bay to commercial fishing. Opponents led by J Frank Atwood oppose the measure as unsound, proposing a limit based on boat capacity to aid enforcement amid a feud with commercial fishers.
Rep. Kenneth B. Keating says the Truman administration abruptly dropped prosecution in a major mail fraud case after talks with Justice Department officials including former Attorney General Tom C. Clark. The panel investigates improper influences in the 1946 cancellation of charges against Roy E. Crummer and 10 associates.
Power s to Speak at the Second Junior Achievement Recognition banquet at the American Legion Home at 6 30 p m. Powers Colson Corp president since 1935, born in Butler Alabama, educated at Mississippi University and Millsaps College, served with Bryan Cobb in 1916 17 19 Army captain. He later led Elyria community projects and chaired the Chamber of Commerce in 1929. The program includes four major and five minor awards for notable yearly work.
Geza C Kokachak 40 of Lavonia Michigan reported striking a deer on Highway 6 at 12 20 a m about five and a half miles west of Lorain He said the deer bounded across the road striking the left front of his car causing damage to the headlight fender and left side of the hood Lorain County Game Warden George Griffith responded to handle the deer.
Maurice W. Jackson elected and installed secretary of Elyria Elks Lodge No. 465 succeeding the late Gerald Nau at a lodge meeting. Jackson, a 36-year Elyria resident with 12 years as an Elks member, works with J. W. Warden and Associates. He lives at 130 Harwood with wife Dorothy and children Tim and Sue. Exalted Ruler William Armitage noted Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on May 22 and urged donations. A fish fry and Mothers Day observance plans were announced, along with a June 27 dance with the same orchestra as the inaugural ball.
Dexter S. Kimball Jr was elected vice president of Bendix Westinghouse Automotive Air Brake Company at a stockholders and directors meeting held at the plant. He will continue as general manager of the Elyria plant.
E G Mitzo head of the Ohio Turnpike Land Agent office said the local unit recommends starting appropriation procedures for three Lorain county parcels where no agreement exists. A value dispute has led to this recommendation and a jury would set the value if action proceeds, subject to Ohio Turnpike Commission approval.
Ohio Fuel Gas Co. announced rate increases for Springfield Toledo and Columbus areas. The hikes range from one to three cents per thousand cubic feet, prompted by higher costs of gas purchased outside Ohio.

Rev. Reuben E Benjamin 85, long time Conneaut pastor, died Tuesday in Longview hospital Kingsville. He served as a minister for over 50 years and led Conneaut churches for nearly four decades. Funeral services are set for Thursday.
The CIO United Steelworkers Union sent formal notices to major steel companies to reopen wage agreements for a general pay raise. The notices free the union to call an industry-wide strike within 60 days if demands are not met.
Rep. Powell of New York requests Attorney General Brownell direct the Justice Department to investigate Senator McCarthy of Wisconsin. He warns that failure to act would trigger a national scandal.
Richard L. Bowditch, head of C. H. Sprague and Son Co and Sprague Steamship Co of Boston, today won election as president of the U S Chamber of Commerce.
At Panmunjom the talks paused after negotiations showed slight progress but two major stances on prisoner repatriation remain. Nam Il offered India as custodian for 46,918 anti‑repatriate prisoners while demanding UN agreement on timing and custody before naming a country. General Harrison rejected moving prisoners to a neutral custodian, citing the Geneva Convention. The 126th truce session adjourned to 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Thirty five sick and wounded American soldiers and Marines left Hickam Field Hawaii aboard a C-97 for California on the first Freedom Airlift. Doctors at Tripler approved the flight after a preflight check at Hawaii. The returnees were due to land at Travis Air Force Base near San Francisco at 3 13 pm EDT for onward travel by plane train and bus to homes across the United States after a medical checkup.
Louis Howell aged 29 of Elyria R D 2 suffered a bullet wound to his right foot when his .22 rifle discharged while he hunted rats in his rear yard. He slipped on a step at home causing the discharge and the bullet hit the second toe. He received treatment at Amherst hospital.
James H. Brouse WD of 97 King Street Oberlin was driving west on Route 10 when the second car turned into a driveway, forcing Brouse to swerve and strike a utility pole about half a mile east of Oberlin Tuesday night. The crash occurred as he attempted to pass the car ahead. The incident led to extensive damage to Brouse’s vehicle.
