The first group of sick and wounded American prisoners released by the Communists is reported to depart Tokyo Tuesday for the United States. The exact size and departure time are undisclosed, with officials planning to announce details to reporters before their flight to Travis Air Force Base near San Francisco.
The United States offered 100000 in rewards for the first Communist pilot to deliver a MIG-15 to Allied hands. Gen Mark W Clark announced 50000 for each MIG turned in and a 50000 bonus for the first to defect. Leaflets and radio broadcasts targeted Korea China and Japan with instructions to breach defences and reach South Korean bases. Also reported are POW repatriations and personal reunions with families at Tokyo and Free dom village.
Mrs Mary Mueller 91 widow of Martin Mueller I died Saturday at 4 50 p m at Easthaven Nursing Home after a year of illness Her home was 211 West avenue She was born in Elvira April 13 1862 lived in Elyria most of her life with a few years in Amherst She was a member of the First Congregational church Surviving are a son Martin T Mueller II a daughter Mrs J D Ran six grandchildren and six great grandchildren Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p m from Sudro Curtis Funeral Home with Rev B Kenneth Anthony officiating Burial will be in Ridgelawn cemetery Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. June Rodgers 48 and her two year old granddaughter Peggy Sharon Stringer died after a collision on Route 20 west of Fremont. The car driven by Samuel Rodgers skidded on the west pavement, crossed into the oncoming lane, and struck a truck. Rodgers was injured and in fair condition. Ohio's weekend fatalities reached 37, with 35 highway deaths and eight double to four-person crashes.
Wet pavements over the weekend blamed for two traffic accidents that injured five people. Margaret Tompkins, 29, of Route 82 R D Grafton, suffered chest injuries and fractured ribs after her car skidded on Route 82. Allan Tompkins, two, treated for shock. A Sprague road skid at Root road injured Benjamin Watley 29 and passengers Richard Biermacher 29 and Dessie Burgess 25 with facial lacerations, a sprained shoulder, and a head wound. Watley cited for reckless driving.
United Nations and Communist negotiators at Panmunjom clashed over four repatriation issues including which neutral country would custody prisoners who refuse repatriation and how long they stay. A possible compromise suggested India as neutral custodian with prisoners kept in Korea pending final status. Lt Gen Harrison rejected a six point plan to move refusers to an unspecified country for six months.
Eight City Street Department trucks began the annual cleanup on schedule under Safety Service Director Dan Rothe. Residents must place trash on the curb promptly to avoid return trips. the city aims to finish in three to four days this week.
A gasoline leak on ML Hurst owned land along Hamilton avenue caused a large oil fire Saturday. Heavy black smoke rose 200 feet or more and was visible up to 15 miles away. Buckeye Pipe Line Co workers repaired the leak two weeks earlier and removed some oil, leaving surplus oil at the swampy site. The fire began about 3 p.m. and continued for hours with no nearby structures affected though a dense wooded area lies nearby. Buckeye Pipe Line Co operations are based at Wakeman.
Timothy Gebhardt, four, of Elyria, was in satisfactory condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a Saturday crash on Sixth street. He suffered a fractured right leg and a scalp laceration as car owner Thomas Pasenow failed to see him while crossing from a playground to home. Pasenow, cited for no license, faced a Thursday hearing on other charges as two passengers and witnesses described the diagonal crossing and light traffic conditions.
John Steacy sustained a slight head cut after 29 cars of a Montreal Toronto freight train passed over him in the Prescott yards. He tried to crawl under the train as it moved, pressing against the ties to avoid further injury.
Mount Aso in Kumamoto Japan erupted without warning sending lava and rocks down its slopes. At least six people were killed and more than 100 injured, mostly teenagers on a school excursion. Rescue teams reported several missing as the death toll could rise.
Two guilty pleas were entered before Judge John Pincura at the general arraignment of last week’s grand jury indictments. Carl Gunther Lorain admitted auto theft and faces penitentiary time. Creed Oney pleaded guilty to non support. Several defendants pleaded innocent on various charges including burglary, armed robbery, embezzlement, and larceny. Pearl J. Smith forfeited a $1000 bond for failure to report.
Results of the pre-induction physical show 2 of 42 men accepted, 11 rejected, and 2 undetermined. Of the Elyria group 18 registered with the board, 15 accepted, 2 rejected, 1 undetermined. The remaining 29 men transferred to Elyria for various reasons, with 14 accepted, all rejected? and 1 undetermined.
A car driven by Walter H. Bring and his wife Josephine, both died in a collision with a tractor trailer on Route 18 about two miles west of Wellington. Their 14 year old son Walter Jr. was seriously injured. Truck driver William Newland is jailed on manslaughter charges with bond set soon.
Wendell Duncan, 23, of Lorain, suffered scalp lacerations and facial abrasions after a two-vehicle collision on Elyria Avenue. He was a passenger in Ira Dalton's car which struck Robert Lewis's vehicle. Dalton failed to negotiate a curve. Both cars were extensively damaged and the state patrol is investigating.
